Gareth Lowe: Are Barcelona really 'more than a club'?

Recently, more than ever before, Barcelona's claims of being "more than a club" have come under close scrutiny. A club that for over 100 years bore no sponsor on the front of their shirt, a club that donates unprecedented amounts to charity and a club that acts as a standard bearer for the region of Catalonia.

The one club who have more grounds on which to dispute those claims than anybody else, is Arsenal. If anybody has ever been given a reason to dislike Barcelona, it's the north Londoners.

Their public pursuit of captain Cesc Fabregas ruffled the feathers of the Gunners, before consecutive Champions League exits at the Camp Nou, marred with controversy despite clear Catalan dominance in both second-legs, have added to the suffering that Barcelona have caused Arsenal in recent years.

Transfer News: Arsenal eye up Benzema; Tottenham revive interest in Charlie Adam

With Robin van Persie prone to injury and Nicklas Bendtner and Marouane Chamakh both struggling for form in recent months, Arsene Wenger is keen on strengthening his attacking options when the transfer window reopens.

Wenger's main target is fellow Frenchman Karim Benzema, who is currently plying his trade at Real Madrid after a big money move from Lyon in the summer of 2009.

The France international has been in good form this season after a difficult start to his career in Madrid but Jose Mourinho may be willing to cash in on him if the Gunners are willing to pay the £25 million asking price.

Man City boss Mancini happy to welcome back De Jong

Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini is ready to welcome back midfield enforcer Nigel de Jong after a six-match absence with an ankle injury.

The combative Dutchman will have to be content with a place on the bench for their clash with Wigan Athletic.

"Nigel has been out for a month so it is difficult for him to be 100 per cent," said Mancini.

"Maybe he could be on the bench to play for 20 minutes or half an hour. Then he can be ready for Dynamo Kiev next Thursday."
