Becks and his LA Galaxy team-mates are gearing up for the World Football Challenge in the States, which also features Premier League champions Manchester United.
And the England international is looking forward to proving he can still cut it among the best players in the world.
Beckham, who starred for Madrid from 2003 to 2007, said: "I spent four amazing years at Real Madrid.
"To go from a club like Manchester United to Real Madrid, it really doesn't get much better than that in football.
"I've got many friends still there. To be facing Real Madrid for the first time since I left is emotional.
"You always get excited about playing against Real Madrid and some of the best players in the world.
"I'm sure the fans are excited as well. It's any player's dream to play in these games."
Manchester City, Juventus, Barcelona, Sporting Clube de Portugal, Chivas and Club America are also taking part in the tournament, which features five MLS clubs.
And Madrid superstar Ronaldo insists the Spanish giants will not be taking Galaxy lightly when they collide at the LA Coliseum in front of an expected crowd of 60,000.
He said: "It will be amazing for us to play against the Galaxy.
"It's a good game for us because we are still in pre-season. All of us like to play against good teams."
Galaxy have played Madrid twice before.
In 2005, Beckham led a star-studded Real squad including Zinedine Zidane, Ronaldo and Roberto Carlos to a 2-0 victory in a friendly at the Home Depot Center.
Last August, the two teams met again in a memorable game at the Rose Bowl.
Galaxy took a 2-0 lead before Madrid stormed back to win 3-2 in front of 89,134 fans — and an injured Beckham who watched on from the sidelines due to a torn Achilles tendon.
Becks, 36, added: "It was disappointing because you always want to play in those games.
"They're exciting games, especially in front of a capacity crowd. Hopefully I'll be good for this one."
Mourinho admits Madrid will not be too concerned by results in the tournament as they step up preparations for the new La Liga campaign.
But he is expecting his players to put on a good show to prove they deserve to begin the season in his starting XI.
The Special One said: "Of course, it's not a priority, but everybody wants to win.
"Everybody tries to win every single match, every single tournament.
"My team will not be at the top because we just started training, but my promise is that all of my players are going to play."
