Chelsea want long Andre Villas-Boas stay

The 33-year-old former Porto boss took over at Stamford Bridge in June. Buck told BBC Sport: "We do envy Arsene Wenger at Arsenal and Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United in terms of longevity, but it shouldn't be longevity for longevity's sake.

"It has to be the right guy in the job for 10 or 15 years and, in light of Andre's age, he may well be that guy." Buck added: "Everyone thinks his age might have been a negative but it's a positive."

Wenger, 61, is celebrating 15 years at Arsenal since his appointment in 1996. Ferguson, 69, arrived at Manchester United a decade earlier and, in November, will mark 25 years as manager at Old Trafford.

Di Matteo happy to be number two

Former West Brom boss Robert Di Matteo insists he will have no problems working as number two under new Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas.

The Italian, sacked at The Hawthorns in February despite having won promotion the previous season, was unveiled as part of the new backroom staff at Stamford Bridge, where he spent six successful years as a player before injury forced him to retire in 2002.

"It is obviously a challenge for me but I don't anticipate any problems," Di Matteo told the club's official website, www.chelseafc.com.

Chelsea confirm Villas-Boas deal

Chelsea have confirmed the appointment of former Porto coach Andre Villas-Boas as their new manager.

The 33-year-old has signed a three-year contract with the Stamford Bridge club after resigning from his post with Porto on Tuesday.

A statement on the Chelsea website read: "Andre was the outstanding candidate for the job. He is one of the most talented young managers in football today and has already achieved much in a relatively short space of time."

Reports: Porto boss set for Chelsea

Managerless Chelsea have agreed to pay the release clause for Porto boss Andre Villas-Boas, according to reports in Portugal.

The west London club are looking to fill the vacancy created by the sacking of Carlo Ancelotti at the end of last season and speculation suggests they have targeted Villas-Boas, who led Porto to the domestic double and Europa League success last term.
